The People’s Work

The People’s Work is an ecumenical platform for church musicians, grounded in the understanding that liturgy is the work of the people.

Mission & Vision

The People’s Work is an ecumenical platform for church musicians, grounded in the understanding that liturgy is the work of the people. It supports organists across Christian traditions by curating organ repertoire for worship and offers practical tools tailored from varied liturgical experiences. Centered on shared purpose, musical excellence, and accessibility, The People’s Work is a resource of the people, for the people.

Whether you are a new organist navigating the challenges of service playing, a seasoned church musician with decades of experience seeking renewed inspiration, or a ‘weekend-organist’ in need of accessible, quickly-prepared repertoire, this resource is designed with you in mind.

Our vision is to offer a thoughtful and purposeful collection of materials to support your work within the church music community. It serves as a platform for sharing repertoire and practical resources among fellow musicians dedicated to the practice of sacred music.

In 2026, we will launch a fully searchable site—accessible by specific tagged criteria. We will also offer curated lists, such as a public domain, easily-prepared prelude and postlude set for each Sunday of the year, and guides with liturgical, theological, and service-playing resources.

Whether you serve a small congregation, a cathedral, or something in between, your insight and experience can be used for the collective good.

Learn More

  • Liaisons are volunteers who support The People’s Work by serving as denominational or ecumenical connectors. They help gather, review, and edit submissions, offering insight, ensuring clarity, and tagging repertoire so it’s easy to find and use.

  • The People’s Work is founded and led by Grace Jackson. Grace is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan and is serving as the 2025–2026 Association of Anglican Musicians Gerre Hancock Intern for Church Music at The Church of St. John the Divine in Houston, Texas. She holds a Master of Sacred Music from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma City University.

  • We welcome a wide range of repertoire: newly composed, hymn or chant-based, easily accessible, by BIPOC composers, of the public or private domain, and everything in between. If it has served you and your congregation well, then it belongs here.

  • Each submission is reviewed for clarity, fit, and completeness. We may lightly edit descriptions or tags for consistency across the entirety of the platform.

  • When you share your resources with The People’s Work your name and years of service as a church musician will be included alongside your submission to acknowledge your contribution. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can opt out when submitting a repertoire or resource form. We will not share your contact information or use it beyond communicating about your submissions.
